Sodium Bicarbonate (USP-Food Grade)

Common Name: Baking Soda, Bicarbonate of Soda, Sodium Bicarbonate
Chemical Name: Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate, Baking Soda
INS No.: 144-55-8
E-number: E500
CAS No.: 106329

Sodium Bicarbonate from Europe is suitable for pharmaceutical, food, and other industrial applications. It is widely used at both industrial and household scale and is supplied as a white powder.

In bakery production, Sodium Bicarbonate is used for its ability to generate gas when heated. It begins to decompose at approximately 80–100°C and decomposes most rapidly at about 200°C.

Its heat decomposition releases carbon dioxide, a property that is useful in many other applications, including dry-powder fire extinguishing agents and degradable blasting media for cleaning metal surfaces.

Sodium Bicarbonate is a mild base and can neutralize acids. It may be used medically to reduce stomach acidity or in other applications requiring acidity reduction.

Because Sodium Bicarbonate contains sodium, it is used in dialysis solutions to support sodium exchange in the body and in treatments involving sodium–phosphate balance.

Sodium Bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, has many practical applications, is readily available, and is economical. Tinnakorn is an importer of high-quality Sodium Bicarbonate from Europe.

Food, Beverage & Supplement

In the food industry, sodium bicarbonate is a component of baking powder and is widely used in baked goods such as bread, cookies, cakes, and pancakes to help them rise and expand. In household use, it can be applied in cooking and baking, used to tenderize pork, and mixed into a washing solution for vegetables and fruit. It can help remove up to 90% of pesticide residues on the surface, including residues from organophosphate and carbamate pesticides.

Other Industries

  • Used in fire extinguishing systems. When heated, sodium bicarbonate releases carbon dioxide, limiting the fuel’s access to oxygen.
  • Used for cleaning and polishing metal surfaces by blasting sodium bicarbonate powder onto the surface. It works like abrasive sand but is easier to clean away.
  • Used to neutralize acids in various industries.

Medical

  • Used to manufacture sodium bicarbonate tablets, commonly known as Soda Mint, for relieving heartburn, indigestion, and irritation caused by excess stomach acid. It may also be included in other formulations such as effervescent antacid powders.
  • Used in the production of dialysis solutions.
  • May be administered intravenously to treat conditions involving sodium-potassium balance.

Cosmetic

Used in contact-lens solutions, toothpaste, bath salts, mouthwash, dishwashing liquid, and household cleaning products. It may also be used in skin-cleansing and exfoliating preparations. In household applications, it can help remove odors from cutting boards and reduce food odors when cleaning microwave ovens or conventional ovens.
