Essential oils are hydrophobic liquids containing aromatic compounds. They occur naturally in various parts of plants, such as seeds, roots, leaves, bark, and flowers.

Characterized by their oily nature, these liquids evaporate when heated, releasing a fragrant aroma;consequently, they are widely used to promote physical and mental relaxation.

Essential oils are soluble in ethanol, non-polar or weakly polar solvents, waxes, and oils, but are generally insoluble in water. They typically appear as colorless or pale yellow liquids with a density lower than water, and possess a molecular structure susceptible to oxidation upon exposure to light, heat, and air.
