Food, Beverage & Supplement
In the food and beverage industry, Potassium Sorbate is commonly used to inhibit mold and yeast in many types of food. Typical applications include cheese, yogurt, dried meat, vinegar, dried fruit, bakery products, carbonated beverages, and fruit juices. It is also added to herbal dietary supplements to extend shelf life. In winemaking, it is commonly used as a sterilizing agent and preservative. After fermentation, Potassium Sorbate helps inhibit yeast activity to prevent further fermentation and undesirable product characteristics. After bottling, it helps prevent renewed fermentation and may be used together with Potassium Metabisulfite to inhibit reactions and help maintain clarity in sweet wines, sparkling wines, and hard ciders.
